Halloween is a holiday that is celebrated in Japan recently. Parties with costume on the theme of terror and horror are really appreciated among Japanese youth. Huge improvised celebrations in the streets of Shibuya were held on October, 29, 30 and 31.
Thousands of zombies, vampires, wizards and horror characters of all kinds fill the streets around the famous crossing in Shibuya and the Building Shibuya 109. That's not all, there are also characters from anime, video games but also grotesque or even totally extreme disguises. Theplace is crowded, people dressed are everywhere. From the outputs of the subway or the JR train station to the streets with all the shops on the side of the building Shibuya 109, it is an invasion of disguised people. The 2 main streets next to the building 109 are closed to cars from 6 p.m. in order to let people enjoy the Halloween party. People regroup in small groups to take photos together, there are mini groups of people disguised in Mario and Luigi, in Wally from the book Where's Wally?, or even sexy police women officers, or the SWAT (sometimes even in zombie version). This is a huge event, it is so crowded, you can hardly breath but it's really super nice atmosphere.
If you are in Japan for Halloween, this is an event that I recommend. You really have to see and feel the fabulous atmosphere there. In Japan, there are tons of shops, restaurants, neighborhoods, ... organizing small events or parades. Shibuya organizes the event every year and it is always a great ambiance. Let's party together!
