Umekoji park lights up from August, 6 to 12 and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. These are special lights for the Tanabata festival and events are held to entertain the public in the park (dance, performance, music, ...). You can also see a few lights around the Kyoto Aquarium which is right next to the park.

You can find in the park a show of lights produced by lighting on trees and bamboo around the small river. That makes a quite magical atmosphere like fairy world. All aisles are decorated with paper lanterns. There is also a small passage illuminated by light in an arcade which gives the impression of entering another magical place. Of course, it is also possible to write your wishes on special Tanabata colored strips and hang them on bamboo as tradition will. It is a performance to admire with your family. Fancy gourmet restaurants trucks and workshops were made available in the park for the whole family. And a variety of other events was organized during these 6 evenings to entertain the people. The park has a large area where you can pic-nic, install a sheet to rest or just relax. We have seen the Japanese take the opportunity to light up their small fireworks and celebrate Tanabata in due form.
