Located on the west coast of Japan, Amanohashidate 天橋 立 is 2 hours from Kyoto by train in the northeast. The city is famous for its 3.6 km long sand bar connecting the two opposite edges of Miyazu Bay. It is possible to walk on the sandbar, it is quite nice with some trees lining the road and 2 great beaches at the ends of the sandbar. It takes 20 minutes by bicycle and 50 minutes on foot to cross the sandbar. For ease, we advise you to take the pass 1 day or 2 days (if you stay 2 days). The pass costs 1600 yen one day and two days 2600. The advantage is that these pass include access to the sailing boat to cross the bay, bike rental , the cable car to the Kasamatsu park and public transport (bus, trains, ... areas depend on the pass that you took).

The sandbar is visible in full on the two viewpoints located high on the two opposite edges of the bay. The first is behind the station Ama-no-Hashidate, where is Ananohashidate View Land. To access it, take the cable car or chairlift for 840 yen round trip. Up there, there is a small amusement park, different views on the sandbank and a few restaurants. The second view is on the opposite mountain, at the Kasamatsu Park. To access, you can go by foot or take the cable car or chairlift. When you are on one of the mountains, it is customary to look between your legs the sandbar. You willhave the impression that it floats in the sky, hence the name Sky Bridge. It is a tradition for over 1000 years. There are also on both bays interesting Buddhist temples to visit like the one next to Station Amanohashidate the temple Chionji or the one above Kasamatsu Park, Nariaiji temple. There are also at the southern end of the sandbar a famous bridge, the Kaisenkyou. It is a rotating bridge, it rotates to let the big boat go through.

Voilà! C'est une ville qui est très intéressante à voir. Nous y sommes allés pour un événement qui se passe une fois par an. Nous vous le présenterons dans un prochain article :)
