Sapporo Snow Festival Susukino 札幌雪祭り

In the Ekimae-dori, the street facing the Susukuno metro station, takes place another part of the Sapporo Snow Festival every year since 1950. The festival, this year, took place from the 6 to 12 February. Compared to the Odori Park site, Susukino focused more on ice sculpture while Odori had more snow sculpture.

The Snow Festival on the site of Susukino stand about 500 m in the main street. This year's theme was 'Enjoy the Ice'. Different activities around the ice was proposed such as the ice sculpture competition, ice sculpture (touching or riding ice sculptures) or the Ice bar. Concerning the ice sculpture competition, the shops around the station sponsored each sculpture. All were equally impressive and spectacular. It is fascinating all the details that artists can put on their sculptures. It was even possible to slide on the toboggan made entirely of ice with its ice wall. Children could also enjoy the Ice, there are also small carved ice sculptures shaped as car or animals to ride. The sculptures could also be appreciated at night, the lighting emphasized the sculpture differently. Illuminations stopped at 11pm.

This is a site that is less crowded than the one in Odori. That is why it is possible to better appreciate the festival and the sculptures. In addition, there are different activities for children and parents. An event to be lived with your family or friends :)
