Umaibō Dagashi うまい棒 - Part #1

The Dagashi 駄菓子 are in Japan all sorts of very cheap treats and snacks that children can affordwhen they leave school. We can find it in Dagashiya throughout Japan (although their numbers has declined sharply since the opening of Kombini.

Here we test the Umaibō (う ま い 棒). It is actually a cylinder popcorn with different tastes. We have bought it in a Dagashiya in Shinjuku for 9 yen each. This snack is available in 36 flavors, some are available all the time, others are seasonal and there are also that are specific to an area.

These are very light snacks, which can be sweet or salty . It's like eating chips but you can eat several with different taste without being bored :)

The character on the package is called Umaemon and strangely looks like a famous anime character Doraemon ;) Umanemon is drawn in different scenes as each fragrance of Umaibō. Sometimes the taste is represented there. In others, the stage has nothing to do with the taste LOL

In this video, we tested the tastes : sweet ( white packaging) , vegetables and salad (green packaging), chicken curry (yellow packaging) and grilled octopus (red packaging). I hope it will make you want to taste it ;)
